One thing many people like is getting free stuff online. Just about everyone gets excited whenever they receive things for free even if what they are getting is not really of any importance to them. As long as they don’t have to pay for it, people will willingly accept anything. This is probably the reason why people just love game shows, which are built exactly on this premise. Get cash, cars, houses, gadgets and just about everything without paying a single dollar – a very simple concept everyone just loves.
But though it may sound simple enough, the concept of getting free stuff actually is a very complex structure. There are several factors that actually made free things available to many people. It should also be put in mind that the concept of “free” is very powerful. As far as business and marketing is concerned, “free” is a very important word. Consumers are driven to the source of a product or service with just this simple word. And because of this, many companies capitalize on this opportunity by giving free products and services to attract a target market.

And with the proliferation of new technologies and media, as well as simplification of communication, giving and getting free stuff have become way easier and more convenient.

I am talking about the Internet, which allows companies and consumers to give and receive just about anything for free. And just like in the real world, companies also give away free stuff as a way to increase awareness and attract possible customers.

This has also been a way for them to be more successful despite the tough competition. Businesses with a wide customer base also benefit by giving free stuff away by attracting more people to use their products or services. The idea is to keep consumers using the product or service in hopes that they will be very familiar with it so they continue using even they are not free anymore. This is to also encourage them to refer the products or services to their friends.

Aside from being a marketing strategy, some companies give out free stuff after they realize they have a surplus of some of their products. Others do this in order to get rid of products that are either near to its expiration or products that are out of season. One example are grocery stores who are giving “buy one, take one” deals.

Another reason why companies give away free products samples is to get valuable market information that they can use to either improve future product or adjust their marketing strategy. This is a common practice for electronic companies launching a new product to the market. By giving free test units to people, they can get their feedback on what they think about the product. They also give free items to people or organizations that are willing to do reviews for their product, which is an additional marketing technique if reviews come out positive.

But whatever reason companies and businesses have for giving away free stuff online, it is a very good deal for consumers who get the free stuff most of the time. And the bottom line for this situation is that both sides get what they want. Giving away and getting free stuff is always a win-win situation, for the most part.
